amid, amidst

amidst是amid的变体形式, amid多用于正式场合中; 而amidst则多用于文学语言中。

amid, among

这两个介词均可表示“在…之中”。其区别在于:

1.among只接复数名词、表人集体名词、复数意义的代词；而amid除此之外还可接单数名词和不可数名词。

2.among表同质关系；而amid表异质关系。例如：

她被发现置身于死人之间。

She was found among the dead. (她是死人)

She was found amid the dead. (她是活人)

3.among表示一事物游离于一个整体之外，易于分辨出来；而amid表示一事物融入一个整体之中，不易分辨出来。

4.among往往用于好的、有利的情况；而 amid 往往用于不好的、不利的情况。

among，between，amid，amongst

among指三者或三者以上的同类事物之间。

between多指两者之间，但现代英语中也可指三者或三者以上，表示彼此间清楚的的个体关系。
